Baggrund
When working with a robot, I must be able to assess what it will do next. I must be able to read where it is moving to, where it stops, where it stops, whether it has seen me and will brake for me. The robot must also be able to analyse; What are the humans doing?

About

Collaborative robots today aren’t really collaborative. Robot arms are required to be fenced in, separating operators from the robots, which in manufacturing set-ups take up a lot of floorspace that could be better used. Current safety measures that would allow for more direct collabotaion between humans and robots are very specialized and extremely costly.

Purpose

The goal of the workshop was to bring some specific suggestions on materials and workflows for manufacturing to the client, displaying properties and effects in use, both concerning the environmental impact and the perception by it’s sorounding. Furthermore, together with the client exploring the abilities of different materials exemplified on scale-models.

Methods and results

For the Workshop to work on a mutual understanding of materials a thorough desktop reseach was made and presented at the beginning. Furthermore to promote an understanding of user involvement in future research and empathy-driven design, we used ‘Journey Mapping’ to walk through possible scenarios and uncover where errors or unexpected opportunities or challenges might be hidden.
