About the project

This project aims to highlight the rather absurd and paradoxical dimension that emanates from the concept of dating apps : how can one find love, such a sensitive and intimate phenomenon, through a smartphone?

I chose to focus on a particular situation, that of the first encounter in real life between the two people, the one were the virtual barrier is finally broken. Once the meeting place has been agreed, in the middle of the crowd, how can you intimately recognize the person you spent days talking to? Impossible to recognize them because, after all, they’re still a complete stranger. Quite a paradox.

I designed two brass brooches to be worn by each of the people of the date, whose purpose is to stand out in a crowd. Each inspired by the phenomenon of animal courtship, one brooch is a whistle like a singing bird; and the other brooch is a gift, like the nuptial gift of daggerflies.

Inspired by the quest for our other half, once face to face, the two brooches unclip and interlock to become a new ritual object, like a candlestick to be placed on the table.
