What

A mycelium-based composite is a materialresulting of the root structure of the fungus with any cellulose based substrate. The rosepetals are ‘fed’ to the mycelium, creating amaterial that is suitable as packaging for theessential oil bottles; thus, closing the loop.Thisproposal enhances the experience of theproduct through sensorial experiencesproduced by this novel material.

Why

Every year, the rising essential oil industry generates large amounts of waste due to the low content of essential oil in the aromatic plants used. Most of the distilleries simply discard the enormous amount of waste biomass, which could lead to ecological problems in the nearby locations.

How

A series of experimentations were developed using the Material Driven Design methodologyto create mycelium-based composites and testing the perception in users.
