About the project
The request was to create the graphics for the future Playline located in Billund: a connection between the tourist attractions in the city of Billund. The aim of Playline is to create a clear, safe, and playful route around Billund, the Children's Capital. Playline must be an attraction in itself, and at the same time help to tie the city's many attractions together and create synergy between them. The specific design intervention concerns Åstvej, the street between Lego Campus and Legoland. Along this kilometer of line, an immersive and playful experience made of graphics on the sidewalk was designed. The first step concerns the implementation of these graphics while the addition of the 3D elements outside the path is planned in a second part of the project.
The abstract and organic shapes, which are all generated from the simplest one of the circle compose and decompose in order to generate in the path a precise rhythm that leads people to immerse themselves in the playful experience of the Playline. The shapes, colors and their composition invite people to “meander” or walk following curves, jump, pirouette, and step off the sidewalk to interact with their surroundings and nature.
The project was carried out in close collaboration with children from the Billund international school who contributed deeply to the design through co-creation sessions that took place over the course of five weeks. Their great contribution is more than visible in the final designs that would not have been the same without their help.
