The Boxes of Impressions by Souraya Ayache

How might I capture and create a tangible memory of a moment of togetherness through a movie screening?

The Café at Building5 is a place capable of transforming itself according to the desires and needs of its users. So, once a month, I thought of transforming the place into a movie theater, to host a monthly movie screening, leading to a moment of togetherness between people, whether friends or strangers.

At the end of the screening, viewers are asked to think of a single word and color to describe their impressions. They are also invited to draw something that would represent their perception of the movie, what they felt.

For each movie, I translated the collected data into a tangible object, like the materialization of the participants’ emotions : a box whose aesthetics would be dictated by the colors and drawings, and which would contain the words.

In a sense, each box embodying a movie will act as a metaphor for an ephemeral moment of togetherness, capturing it in time and turning it into something eternal.
