The key challenge of the project is how to safely and securely guide the patients to move independently through the pre-scanning process without expending excessive staff resources as well as ensuring that both patients and professionals perform the tasks they are best at.

The Self-reliant Patient

The assignment of the project The Self-reliant Patient was to investigate and develop the system and the processes around the scanning of patients at the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Vejle Hospital.

The hospital department had asked the Laboratory for Social Inclusion at Design School Kolding to assist in changing the working procedures so that professionals no longer help patients do what they can do themselves. Patients must be equipped to move within the department's complex system and find their way at the right time without feeling left to fend for themselves. They must feel they are safe and in good hands.

The project is designed to help optimise the professional staff’s work and reduce the time the scanners are on standby while also improve the patient’s experience.

Challenge

Goal

The goal of the project was to gain an understanding of the existing development potentials in regard to the users’ journey and their needs and also develop several new service scenarios for the patient experience at the Department of Nuclear Medicine.

The project was developed in collaboration between the Laboratory at the Design School Kolding and the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Vejle Hospital.
