Background
Preparation of a status report regarding the use and perception of design within the Child and Youth Administration of Kolding Municipality. How is the concept of design perceived and applied today? What makes sense, what does not? How would you describe the perceived value of design? How can we use design in the future? What do we want? What are the obstacles, and how can we overcome them?

Design Survey Kolding Municipality

The assignment
The assignment is to gather knowledge about whether and to what extent there is an understanding of the use of design, the design concept and the potentials for the use of design in the Child and Youth Administration in Kolding Municipality (see the vision "Kolding - we design life"). Specific research work and gathering of knowledge should be implemented through observations and interviews with children, young people, parents, teachers, educators and leaders in the field. This accumulated knowledge must be analysed and result in a description of how the design concept is perceived and used today. This research work is used to reveal a potential flexibility in terms of the definition of design ensuring that all of us involved in programmes for children and youth within Kolding Municipality perceive and approach the concept going forward.

Goal and objective
The study will be part of a description/mapping of the current situation and devise options for "donning the work gloves" in order to improve the common understanding and use of design in Kolding Municipality within the Child and Youth Administration.

The objective is to assess the perception of design in the Child and Youth Administration; develop an overall and general understanding of the current situation and gauge where opportunities exist to help and contribute to a better understanding and use of design. In other words, it is a project that will map the perception as it exists today in order to ascertain where a positive contribution can be made over time that will enhance the use and understanding of design within the Child and Youth Administration. Additionally, participants in the project will have the opportunity to express what they think is sensible, and how they believe that design can make a positive contribution to their work in the future.
