Study abroad
Studying abroad
Overseas study
Design School Kolding has entered into contracts with selected international institutions for student exchange, which means that students are exempt from paying tuition fees at the host institution. These study visits do not carry the option of a grant.
Study visits in the Nordic region
Design School Kolding is a member of the Nordic network Cirrus. It is made up of the major Nordic design and architecture schools in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Within this network, students are exchanged under the Nordic Nordplus programme. Travel grants can be applied for under this programme. The school also works with Express Mobility, which are short stays, so that students can follow single courses at the partner institutions.

Erasmus+ study visit
Erasmus+ is an EU funded exchange programme based on Design School Kolding’s contract with the EU and the awarded ERASMUS CHARTER FOR HIGHER EDUCATION 2014-2020. Please find and download the charter on the right side of this page.
Erasmus+ builds on individual exchange agreements within this programme between institutions within the EU and EEA countries. Travel grants can be applied for on an Erasmus study visit, when the Erasmus rules are followed. See more below.
Off out into the world? This is what you do
When you intend to apply for an exchange, you must contact Design School Kolding’s International Office in good time for further advice and guidance. You should also consult the Head of Subject, who can give you advice and guidance on the places suitable for you. The Head of Subject must approve your application for an exchange visit. This is done by signing the DK Application Form; the Head of Subject must also approve your portfolio.
Exchange visits may take up no more than the equivalent of 30 ECTS credit points per term. From the academic year 2015/2016, exchange has been moved from the Master’s Programme to the Bachelor Programme and must be placed on the 4th or 5th semester of the Bachelor Programme. Due to this change, the following transitional provisions apply:
In the academic year 2015/2016 it is possible for 1st year Master students to go on exchange. Students enrolled in the Master’s Programme from 1 September 2016 will not be able to go on exchange. Exempt from this are students enrolled as Bachelors at Design School Kolding prior to 1 September 2014 and who have been enrolled in the Master’s Programme based on the legal claim for admission.
Credit transfer
The student receives ECTS credit points transferred from point-giving host institutions (max. 30 ECTS credit points per semester). If the student has been on an exchange visit at an institution that does not award ECTS credit points, the student must be assessed by Design School Kolding. On exchange visits giving fewer than 30 ECTS credit points per semester, a special agreement must be concluded for the remaining ECTS credit points.
Requirements for the Erasmus+ study visit
Erasmus+ study visit
If you would like to spend one or two semesters at a European university, you can apply for an Erasmus+ spot and an Erasmus+ scholarship. The scholarship will be granted provided there are sufficient funds by the EU Commission.
Erasmus+ scholarship
The monthly scholarship for the Erasmus+ programme differentiates depending on the country. Because Denmark is a high-cost country, Danish students are never awarded maximum rate because the EU Commission has decided that students who travel from one high-cost country to another high-cost country can only receive medium rate. Maximum rate is reserved for students who travel from countries with medium or low living costs to a country with high living costs. For Danish students this means that there are only two rates available: the medium and the low-cost rate.
Medium rate – 300 Euro per month: Denmark, Ireland, France, Italy, Austria, Finland, Sweden, Great Britain, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland (for Switzerland, please read below)
Low-cost rate – 250 Euro per month Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Spain, Croatia, Cyprus, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Iceland, Turkey, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Macedonia.
The scholarship rate depends on the funds that the school receives by the EU Commission that specific academic year. The above rates are for the academic year 2014-2015.
The Erasmus+ scholarship is a supplement to your SU (State education grant) and covers extra costs in relation to your study visit.
Switzerland
Switzerland does not participate in the Eramus+ programme in 2014-2015 and you will therefore not receive a scholarship from the school. Instead, you will receive a scholarship directly from the Swiss state. Your host university will inform you about the size of the scholarship and how it will be disbursed.
Requirements:
- A new feature of the Erasmus+ programme is the option to go on more Erasmus visits (either Erasmus internship or Erasmus study visit). You can go for up to 12 months during your BA studies and up to 12 months during your MA studies. The visit must always last a minimum of three months (for study visits) and two months (for internships) and no more than 12 months. This means that you can divide your visits into short visits lasting e.g. three months. However, it also means that if you want to combine an Erasmus internship with an Erasmus study visit, both visits will be listed as part of the 12 month total that you are allowed per study level (BA and MA).
- You must be enrolled at Design School Kolding and you must earn credits during your visit.
- Please be aware of the school’s own internal rules concerning exchange and internships.
