Launch of architecture competition
Finally, we’re able to name the five architecture companies who will be competing for the job of transforming and rebuilding Design School Kolding. After careful consideration, Design School Kolding’s external steering committee has selected ADEPT, CEBRA, CUBO Arkitekter, Mikkelsen Arkitekter as well as Rørbæk & Møller Arkitekter as the ones who they’d like to see submit proposals for the future Design School Kolding.
The external steering committee comprises Design School Kolding’s Rector, Chairman of the Board, one Board Member as well as Kolding Municipality’s City Architect and representatives from the A.P. Moller Support Foundation and the Louis-Hansen Foundation. And they were in for a difficult task by having to decide between a total of 19 extremely competent architecture companies who were all able to meet the number of requirements needed to qualify for the competition. The architecture companies were asked to document experiences with previous transformation builds, education builds, establishment of workshop functions, and account for their professional capacity, financial stability and, very importantly, know-how when it comes to building sustainably.
- The five architecture companies who have been selected for the main competition cover a broad spectrum, from the relatively young and experimental teams to the more established ones. We believe this will result in five interesting and probably very different proposals, says rector Lene Tanggaard.
The deadline for handing in the project proposals is 24 January. The jury will then go through all projects in great detail before announcing the winner on 16 February 2022. The rebuild will begin on 8 November 2022, and the transformed building is expected to be ready on 17 October 2023.
Staff and students have been involved in selecting the five architecture companies. Design School Kolding’s internal steering committee, which apart from members of the rectorate comprises one staff representative and one student representative, have assessed and completely back the recommendation by the external steering committee.
