Danish design for the Minister

Rector Elsebeth Gerner Nielsen hosted a real tour de force of the school’s projects when Troels Lund Poulsen visited Design School Kolding. Especially the collaboration with Tim Hansen from House of Composites caught the Minister’s attention.

Currently three students are working with Tim Hansen on designing a sports car. For over a decade, House of Composites has been producing carbon fibre components for Le Mans and Formula1 cars. This has inspired company owner Tim Hansen’s dream to design a sports car. Right now, three Industrial Design students are working on what will later become the Agile SC122 – a snappy little thing with a 3,5 litre V6 Toyota engine and almost 450 horsepower. Head of Education and Industrial Design Peter Barker explained the project to the Minister and showed a selection of sketches and computer models.

Troels Lund Poulsen also had the chance to meet one of the teachers, Barnabas Wetton, who talked about the school’s collaboration with NASA and how designers are able to combine fact with emotion. Head of the Textile programme, Helle Gråbæk, showed different kinds of materials including sealskin. Finally, the Minister was given an introduction to some of the many additional collaborations with small and medium-sized companies that take place withtin the D2i – Design to innovate project, which teaches companies to use design methods to develop their business.
