If the shoe fits...

Students leave a mark on ECCO and world-famous designer
By Katrine Worsøe

Right now, the shoe designers of tomorrow are taking giant leaps in product development at Design School Kolding thanks to guest teacher D'Wayne Edwards from American Pensole Footwear Design Academy. A collaboration which is made possible thanks to a partnership agreement with ECCO.

During five intense weeks, students are invited to challenge the ECCO brand, consumer perceptions, and the traditional ways to make shoes. The ECCO design team, Design School Kolding’s teachers and of course D’Wayne himself will be assessing the students’ work.

Half-way through, the students have now presented their concepts and sketches.

Students need to understand the consumer
D’Wayne Edwards is former lead designer at NIKE and the man responsible for the famous sports shoes, Air Jordan.

- The students have learned to work professionally with shoe design. Mainly, we have made them see that the shoes they design should not just be for themselves. Ordinary people should be able to understand and wear them, Dwayne Edwards says. The shoe masterclass ends 25 October with a presentation of 24 pairs of shoes.
