From children's loom to New York
Inspired by a children's loom and the not entirely perfect home of an elderly gentleman, Gitte Lægaard has created a digitally printed rug either for the floor or for the wall. And the naive results that she achieved on a children's loom stirred the authenticity that she wanted to express.
”I made my first studies on a children’s weave. It was a quick and immediate way to examine materials and expressions, but I thought the samples were too primitive. I therefore went quickly to a larger weaving machine. After a series of experiments, I realised that the textiles were too perfect, all life in them had disappeared! The initial children’s weave pieces, with their coincidences, gravity and lots of mistakes, radiated the sensuality that I was looking for”, Gitte says in her presentation on trendtablet.com
The exhibition is curated by the world's leading trend researcher in textiles, Lidewijh Edelkoort, and is open during the New York Design Week 9 – 19 May. Out of 200 proposals 20 have been selected and the winner will be announced on 13 May 2015.
