I miss you when I’m sleeping

A group of students design wearables that focus on giving and taking

Going to sleep at night when your partner is not there can be hard. Two Design School Kolding students have come up with a solution: they have designed a “his and her sleeping vest”. The sleeping vest is called “Distance” and is intended for couples who live apart. It is inflatable, it vibrates and then it smells like your partner. The purpose of the vest is to provide comfort when you miss your partner and enable you to sleep better.

The vest is just one out of ten wearables designed by BA Accessory and Industrial Design students during a cross-disciplinary course that focuses on the possibilities and limitations of the body. The students were asked to design a wearable that gives and takes and that expands the user’s options on one hand while limiting them on the other.

Great variation
And the students solutions were quite diverse. ”EyeRead” is a pair of reading glasses that helps dyslexics to read and understand words. ”WorldWater” is a water container that fills itself by transforming moist air into drinking water. ”InCOD1” focuses on type 1 diabetes and consists of an insulin pump with a bracelet that measures blood sugar levels and calculates the right amount of insulin. ”UNITI” – a kind of wrist watch – helps heavy people to a healthier lifestyle by matching up users and helping them stay motivated. ”C3” is a learning tool that helps sensitive pupils who have difficulty concentrating. ”UKILALA” is a version 2 of the classic baby alarm. The cyclist will always be visible in the 1dark and will never get his bike stolen with the helmet ”Lux-Ruko”, which has integrated lights and a combination lock for the bike. A "selfie reflective device" extends your identity on the social media while ”City Breath” makes pollution visible and protects you.

The students had 7 weeks to complete the assignment. They had to relate to two products, make a presentation video, a poster and a model.

The ten wearables are currently on display in the lobby at Design School Kolding.
