Can you make a brand identity in two days? Yes!

And this is just one of the results of the geobranding course and conference in Kolding.

The Danish Ambassador, Consul General in New York Jarl Frijs-Madsen gave his keynote via Skype when Design School Kolding hosted the geobranding conference BRAND x (Place) on 29 May.

The conference was the culmination of a week-long course at the department of Communication Design where 2nd-year students worked with geobranding, that is branding of a place.

One of the groups, comprising Esben Møller Rahbek and Henrik Touvdal Hegelund, focused on rebranding under the expert guidance of Hunter Tura, CEO and President of Bruce Mau Design, and after only two days they were able to present the film #ourkolding

Apart from films the students at Communication Design produced t-shirts, logos, visual identities and much more.

Historically branding has been thought of as a marketing device to sell products. The course and conference changed this narrow focus on company interests to a wider focus on common public interests.

The conference was organised by Stephan Saaltink, Head of Communication Design at Design School Kolding, together with Hunter Tura, CEO Bruce Mau Design, and Mads Quistgaard, Partner URGENT.

Additional conference speakers were Hunter Tura (Bruce Mau Design), Christian Pagh (Urgent), Mads Quistgaard (Urgent), Lars Jørstad Nordbye (Snøhetta) and Ulrik Jungersen (Kolding Municipality).
