West meets East

You could hear Viking roars when Design School Kolding students met with Chinese students from the College of Design and Innovation at Tongji University in Shanghai

In the Viking age Scandinavians went on Viking raids. And you can still hear Viking roars when future designers from Design School Kolding travel the world; not to raid but to collaborate and co-create and share ambitions and wonder.

- We are as ambitious as you, curious and eager to learn. Kolding students, please raise your hands and make some Viking noise! Stephan Saaltink, Head of Communication Design, requested in his speech to the students.

For four weeks, 37 3rd year students from Industrial Design, Communication Design, Fashion & Textile Design and seven students from the Design Management programme will visit College of Design and Innovation in Shanghai. Design School Kolding has worked with Tongji University for a number of years; this time on three different projects: Design for Urban Mobility & Sustainability, Wearable Technology, and finally Smart City Smart Community.

The Chinese students were given a present that Kolding students are introduced to at the beginning of their studies, namely a set of method cards with the mantra: 1. Collect 2. Comprehend 3.Conceptualise 4.Create 5. Communicate.

We look forward to the outcome of the East-West encounter.
