New Education for Students in the Workforce
As of September 2018 working designers will be able to supplement their Bachelor’s degree in design with a Master’s degree. Design School Kolding will be offering Master’s degrees as four-year part-time programmes for students in the workforce. That’s a win-win situation for students as well as for business, says Elsebeth Gerner Nielsen, Rector of Design School Kolding:
- The new programme is completely in line with the efforts of Design School Kolding to link the education more closely to the surrounding community. It means that we can now admit students who already have a connection to the labour market, which not only creates more flexibility for the individual student but also ensures a continuous flow of knowledge and skills between the professions and the programmes at Design School Kolding, she states.
Linking education and the workplace
The students in the new graduate programmes will work while enrolled in the course. The curriculum is identical to the regular two-year Master's degree programmes in the various design disciplines but extends over four years. The new programme allows students to receive an education while working at least 25 hours a week in a company or public organisation. Thus, they will be able to continuously connect what they learn to their current work in a completely new fashion, and the business community has a better opportunity to recruit a highly qualified and, not least, specialised workforce.
It is the business community and the universities – including Design School Kolding – that have requested the pilot programme.
Facts about the professional Master’s degree programme
It is a two-year Master’s programme (120 ECTS) structured as a four-year part-time course in which the students work in a public or private company while studying. The curriculum is identical to the regular two-year Master’s programmes. The first students in the new Master’s degree programme will start in September 2018.
Who can apply?
Individuals who meet the professional admission requirements – i.e. the admission requirements that apply to all other Master's programmes at the school.
Individuals who are employed for at least 25 hours a week, are self-employed or are entrepreneurs.
