Background
"I thought I knew the most about my hometown. Through the conversations I had with the locals along the way, I discovered that there were many perspectives and local history I wasn’t aware of. This helped me bring variety to the design process and helped me design lamps that represents the voices of Esbjerg and Fanø."

A stronger relationship with the things we have at home

WHAT? Two table lamps that represent Fanø and Esbjerg through their respective colours, shapes and materials. The lamp bases are made of wood and driftwood found on the beaches of Esbjerg and Fanø and are marked with the coordinates of the place where they were found.

HOW? Through interviews and collaboration with locals from Esbjerg and Fanø, designer Bjørn Grummesgaard Hagensen realised that many of us are most fond of things connected to where we grew up. The design of the two lamps comes from items unique to Esbjerg and Fanø.

WHY? We buy and consume products but do not keep them for long. Designer Bjørn Grummesgaard Hagensen decided to identify what it takes for us to keep products longer. The history of the lamps and their connection to a local area may give the owner a stronger emotional connection and desire to keep them.
