Woven stories

When the conversation turns to their origins and cultural background Danes with different ethnic backgrounds are often met with a degree of silence. The Danish-Filipino designer has herself experienced this silence and questioned her own identity. With the loom as a focal point, she has created textiles that are meant to strengthen the dialogue about Danes with different ethnic backgrounds and origins. Using materials, colours and different types of weaving, she has woven unique portraits of people whose emotional baggage includes experiences and memories that differ from those of ethnic Danes. The project explores how woven textiles can focus on the many cultural encounters and relationships that exist among Danes with different ethnic backgrounds.
