Background
Through her collection Julie Mikkelsen tells the story of her own transition from down-to-earth beginnings in Jutland’s wool country to the designer’s silk-wrapped dreams of a future with extravagance and finery.
Self-encounter
She recognizes herself in the fairy tale of the Ugly Duckling, from down to fully developed feather and discovering one’s true identity in one’s reflection in the pond. The therapeutic collection acts as a similar reflection pond by expressing the sense of wrongness associated with the transition.
