Sojourns in Society

WHAT? This art installation is an image of life as a temporary foreign student in Kolding and the community one is part of. The installation illustrates both the relationships that are created in the community, but also the barriers that the individual student encounters in his or her surroundings.

HOW? With her background in textile design, the designer is curious to investigate how materials and their design can help to tell the story of the participants involved in the project. She also explores how the physical presence in an environment can help to create a sense of belonging to the place – and to the culture.

WHY? The project is an example of Critical Design, which attempts to appreciate how international students in Kolding adapt to life as young citizens of the world in transit between several destinations in life.
