Graduation project by Jichun Ma

This project explores the lives of unmarried women over the age of 27 in the Yangtze River Delta region. The derogatory label of ‘Shèngnǚ’ was coined by the All-China Women’s Federation and translates literally into “leftover women.” The term has become popularized by media campaigns and government initiatives aimed at pressuring women to get married. This project explores ways to support and empower women who face such social pressures.
