Background
”I am passionate about handicraft and working with sustainable materials, and believe it is important that we try to use as much of what we already have instead of producing new ones.”
Bags of deadstock leather
The designer has created a bag collection from a mix of offcuts, scraps, and deadstock leather using a patchwork technique combined with brass pieces inspired by Kintsugi; a Japanese artform from the mindset of Wabi-sabi. This type of aesthetics is sometimes described as a beauty that is "flawed, temporary and incomplete". The smallest pieces of leather from the production of the bags are mixed with resin to create the details/hardware. The project invites us to focus our energy on repairing rather than producing, on imperfections rather than perfection.
