Call for papers on Design and Play
Af Marianne Baggesen Hilger

Design School Kolding is happy and proud to be part of the official conference programme at The Design Research Society biennial conference 2022 that takes place in Bilbao 25 June – 3 July with the track ‘Understanding Play – designing for emergence’ developed and hosted by Assistant Prof. Karen Feder and Associate Prof. Sune Gudiksen from the Design for Play programme and LAB for Play & Design team at Design School Kolding.

The organisers of the track welcome papers on the following topics and more:

  • Play product, toys & playground design
  • Play design, systems and games
  • Play design, creativity and innovation
  • Play design and the arts
  • Play design and learning sciences

The DSR2022 conference highlights how the discipline of design research has responded to the crisis of the past years and how design and design research can bring insights and methods needed to transform conflict into collaboration.

-The Covid ’19 situation has exposed a need to revitalize imagination, curiosity and surprise in design processes as well as products, services and systems. So in this theme track, we invite for papers that search explicitly for novel play design principles through empirical analysis, says Karen Feder.

- This could involve looking at how play can support stronger social relationships in communities and societies. Or how play can support competence and skill development in a variety of educational contexts.
